Istanbul calling
On Friday we're leaving for Istanbul. We'll travel all night by train and sleep in funny wagons (with possible new friends or snoring old men like in our ship cabin going to Venice 2 weeks ago)..I'm really curious to see what will come out of our visit to The City for the Venice Biennale exhibition. I remember last year's summer there for UIA's World Congress: The Grand Bazaar of ArchitectureS, filling up a questionaire handed in by a culture-something-lady at the opening ceremony night at the Seven Towers Fortification Castle. Ecevit was welcoming us as I read: How would you describe Istanbul? a. Cosmopolitan, b. Mystical, c. Historical, d. ... I skip all choices and write CRAZY.
Crazy Istanbul.
I remember a constant feeling of movement, rush, street-food smelling, eyes over-fed by information, excess of energy and alert senses. The sea and the skyline. The dramatic changes in topography and the horizon.
It's been a long year and my last visit there seems to me like ages ago. I'm wondering -and looking forward- to see what am I going to write on the questionaire this year...
